Beyond safer roads, safety also means physical safety and peace of mind wherever we are present in our community. In late July, Toronto City Council passed a motion asking Ottawa to prohibit the availability, sale, possession, and use of handguns, assault rifles and semi-automatic firearms in Canada. I support the motion and will work with my federal counterparts on a solution that works for our city.

I also know that our gun violence problem goes deeper than gun control. Mental health awareness and service delivery, community programming, and investing in our youth are all part of addressing this issue. I will work tirelessly to ensure our federal and provincial counterparts understand the types of solutions Toronto needs and fight for more municipal resources in Beaches-East York.
