Constituency & Stakeholder Advisor
Office of Councillor Brad Bradford
Ward 19 | Beaches-East York

Brad Bradford is the second-term City Councillor for Ward 19, Beaches-East York. Brad brings an energetic, results-focused approach to delivering for Torontonians. With experience as an urban planner, he has a passion for tackling our housing crisis, strengthening local neighbourhoods, and building a safer, more affordable city that’s easier to get around.

Working with our team, the Councillor, residents and stakeholders, the Constituency and Stakeholder Advisor will use your interpersonal skills, political instincts, and resident and stakeholder management talents to resolve individual cases, identify areas for systemic or policy change, and build strong and trusting relationships. In particular, your work will focus on parks and recreation issues, environmental and forestry issues, snow removal, and other files as assigned.

This is a fast-paced, highly rewarding role in a collaborative, energetic and supportive team.

What can you expect to do?

  • Serving as the office lead for a handful of key City of Toronto departments you will help resolve constituent inquiries about City services, give the Councillor strategic advice on key local issues related to these departments, and coordinate events and projects to help community groups achieve their priorities.
  • Key Departments and program areas this position is responsible for:
    • Parks & Recreation
    • Forestry
    • Environment & Climate
    • Snow Removal
    • Economic Development
  • Developing relationships and coordinating with City of Toronto staff, residents, community groups and associations, and other stakeholder groups to achieve the best customer service experience for residents in the Beaches-East York community.
  • Responding to resident inquiries quickly and with attention to detail, though phone calls, emails, and in-person interaction.
  • Advocating for residents with city staff and external stakeholders, as required, in order to resolve case files.
  • Proactively driving action and results on key parks and recreation capital projects, and keeping Councillor Bradford and the team up to date on key milestones and issues affecting local projects.
  • Staying up to date on the latest policies and practices for city programs and providing residents key information on programs and services related to the areas above.
  • Serving as Councillor Bradford’s representative to community associations, resident associations, local boards and other community groups as assigned to help those groups achieve their objectives wherever possible and navigate City processes.
  • as it relates to your files.
  • Coordinating with other members of Councillor Bradford’s team to ensure that key information affecting the community is communicated internally and externally in the community.
  • Inputting into media briefings for interview requests with the Councillor.
  • Leading other community-based projects and initiatives, or taking on other duties as needed to support the team’s work.

What would make you successful in this role?

We’re open to a wide range of experience. The most important things are an interest in local government and politics, a willingness to dive into a range of projects, and a desire to support the community through a customer-service based approach.

Broadly, we’re looking for:

  • A relevant college or university degree, and 2+ years’ experience in a government or customer service role, preferably in a political environment and with public-facing responsibilities.
  • A natural multi-tasker who is organized and able to prioritize within the quickly evolving demands of a political office.
  • Political acumen to understand multiple competing interests and how to balance across them using Councillor Bradford’s approach and values to respond.
  • Bringing a strong customer service orientation, with a desire to keep stakeholders and community members engaged and informed.
  • Familiarity with the City of Toronto’s policies and decision-making process.
  • An exceptional writer with an ability to adapt your style to the Councillor’s voice and key messages, and to tailor content style for different audiences.
  • A self-starter, proactively seeking opportunities to improve the resident experience in Beaches-East York with a strong inclination to communicate and leverage the Councillor’s work locally to build community and support the community’s goals.
  • A relationship-builder who can stay connected with community and internal partners.

What are the challenges?

  • The work can be demanding – Ward 19 is one of the most well-informed and well-engaged communities in Toronto. The role requires finding a good balance between proactively managing key projects and reactively responding to constituent issues.
  • The work environment is fast-paced and high-pressure, with the frequently reactive or shifting priorities typical of politics.
  • We are horizontal and have high expectations for attention to the small things as well as the big – in a public facing role, each interaction matters.
  • No job is too big or small and our whole team gets involved, whether that’s helping with event set-up or simply jumping in to answer the phones.
  • Attendance at evening, weekend and holiday events is often expected.

The position is full-time, starts immediately and is based out of both Toronto City Hall and Councillor Bradford’s constituency office at Danforth and Woodbine. Employees are eligible for health benefits and are required to participate in the OMERS pension plan. Attendance at evening, weekend and holiday events is often expected.

Salary range: $50,000 – $60,000, commensurate with experience
